Brother HL-2270DW Review

The Brother HL-2270DW mono laser printer is an excellent alternative to the bottomless money pit that is today’s inkjets. Supplementing a printer setup with a cheap monochrome can help in reducing costs in home offices.

While the printer has some drawbacks – so-so graphical output, it evens up things with fast printing and simple 802.11 b/g wireless.

HL-2270DW’s size is another advantage. At 7.2″ H x 14.5″ W x 14.2″ D, it requires less space compared to the majority of inkjets available in the market.

Indeed, speed is one of the main qualities of HL-2270. It has a rate of 11.7 pages per minute. And you can expect 27 ppm performance for text documents that do not contain any photos or graphics.

In a comparison of speed, the Brother HL-2240 shows an almost similar performance with 11.4 ppm. However, the HL-2240 only offers a USB connection. The LaserJet Pro P1102w from HP also has the same speed to HL-2240, but it does not provide an Ethernet connection. The HL-2270 is a fast printer in the category of printers that offer Ethernet and are available for a comparable price.

Another strong point of this printer is its output quality. The text quality is very slightly below what you might want for desktop publishing applications, however, quickly sufficient for almost all types of business documents, unless you need a report with unusually small-sized fonts.

The graphics and photo quality is at the lower end of the very tight ranges for mono lasers. It is sufficient for internal use of any kind. Its acceptability for PowerPoint handouts and similar documents depends on the level of perfection you want. The photo quality is at the top end of what can expect from such as printer – it offers sufficient variety for printing recognizable Web photos and client newsletters.

Brother HL-2270DW has a duplexer that allows you to print on both sides of the paper. The input tray can handle 250 sheets. There is also a 1-sheet manual shortcut tray with no options for handling paper, and there is also an Ethernet connection.

In all, Brother HL-2270DW is a desirable option. It offers speed, reasonably high output quality, duplexing, suitable paper capacity, and support for wired as well as WiFi network. These features make the printer a bargain for its price. Consider the small size, and the HL-2270 is particularly suitable – in both physical and metaphorical terms – as a shared printing machine in a micro office.
