HP CP1518 Printer Review

The HP CP1518 printer is inexpensive and reliable. A workgroup-type of printer ideal for small offices and businesses consisting of several computers. It is perfect for personal, and home uses, too.

The addition of 10/100Base-TX (with RJ-45 connector) allows multiple users to connect to a single printer. That would be beneficial to workgroups or students in their specific projects. If you need to add photos from memory cards (from a digital camera, perhaps), you can use its built-in memory card slots to speed up the process, no need to transfer the image to the computer.

Elegant-looking with an ultra-compact design having dimensions of 399-mm height, 453-mm width, and 254-mm depth, this 18.2-kg printer will fit on your computer desk so you can save space.

It runs on a 450 MHz Motorola processor and a 96 MB (352 MB max) of standard memory, which used for storing print spools. It is compatible with Microsoft Windows 2000 and above versions, and also with Macintosh machines.

HP CP1518 Toner

The HP CP1518 printer implements a technology from HP called ImageREt 3600. Along with the use of high-performance HP ColorSphere toners (black, cyan, yellow, magenta), it creates sharper texts and more vivid colors and graphics to ensure quality outputs with a touch of the professional look.

Paper Handling / Medium

The CP1518 toner can print on an A4 size paper up to 12 pages per minute (black) or up to 8 pages per minute (color) using HP’s In-line color laser printing technology. With Instant-on technology, the printer uses the fuse more efficiently, resulting in the first page of work faster (coming from low power mode). In black, it can finish the first page as fast as 25.5 seconds, is white, and can be as quickly as 31.5 seconds.

The CP1518 printer has two paper trays: a single-sheet priority feed slot and a 150-sheet input tray; the output bin can hold a maximum of 250 papers. The single-feed is excellent for small printings. Standard media sizes available for use are A4, A5, A6, and B5, which can be customized from 76 x 127 to 216 x 356 mm. It supports bonding, brochures, colors, glossy, letterhead, photos, dull, preprinted, pre-pressed, recycled, rough, transparency. It also supports labels, envelopes, and card stock.
The Cons

Although cheap and user-friendly, the biggest turn-off of this product is the expensiveness of replacing the toner once one of them runs out. Ironically, the cost of a complete set of toner cartridges can be twice the price of the printer itself. The printer also has a high ink consumption according to customers.

Another annoyance for those who buy the product is the noise level when printing and has a cleaning cycle. Some users also experience paper jams during the printing session.

“Speed is OK” and “Not a speed demon,” as one user noted, the CP1518 is not the fastest around, but the majority of users took it easy on this as they got their money’s worth through excellent and quality printing.
